Wöhler’s synthesis

A historically significant step in the development of organic chemistry when in 1828 Friedrich Wöhler (1800-82) made urea CO(NH{TAG(tag=>sub)}2{TAG}){TAG(tag=>sub)}2{TAG} from ammonium isocyanate NH{TAG(tag=>sub)}4{TAG}NCO. This was at the time supposed to be impossible as the former compound was regarded as ‘organic’ and the latter compound ‘inorganic’.
