(Phys.) In various contexts, a transparent section in an otherwise opaque domain. This opaque domain may be spatial (‘window’ in its common usage), it may be a spectrum (ranges of the spectrum of the Earth\'s atmosphere that allow radiation to penetrate are ‘windows’) or it may even be temporal (a time period during which a spacecraft may be launched to achieve a particular objective is a launch window).
