Schottky diode

  
   
A diode based on a metal-semiconductor junction, known as a Schottky barrier. The separation of the energy of the bottom of the conduction band and the Fermi energy is increased at the junction, creating a barrier that the carriers must cross, either by having sufficient thermal energy or by the tunnel effect, and the current depends on the bias voltage. Schottky diodes can be used as rectifiers, and switch faster than conventional p-n junction diodes.
