Saturn |
| |
| The sixth planet from the Sun, at an average distance of 9.54 AU, and with an orbital period of 29.46 years. Its radius is 60 270 km (nearly ten times the Earth\'s), though its magnetic field and gravitational field are of similar magnitude to the Earth\'s. The planet rotates in 10 h 14 min. In most respects Saturn resembles Jupiter but it is distinguished by its beautiful rings, which consist of billions of tiny particles (diameters from about 1 μm to 1 m or more, made partly of ice) orbiting in very thin layers. It has at least 18 satellites, of which Titan is by far the largest (with a radius of 2575 km, only just smaller than Jupiter\'s largest satellite, Ganymede).See Appendix table 4. |
