| Symbol Sm. The element with atomic number 62 and relative atomic mass 150.4, which is a member of the lanthanides. As expected therefore its dominant oxidation number is +3 as in the green crystals SmCl{TAG(tag=>sub)}3{TAG}. Its most important use is in a ferromagnetic alloy with cobalt (SmCo{TAG(tag=>sub)}5{TAG}), which forms strong permanent magnets. |
