quantum number

In general, a number corresponding to an operator  for a quantum stateφ that is an eigenstate of Â. For electrons in atoms, four quantum numbers are required to define the state: the principal quantum number, orbital angular momentum quantum number, magnetic quantum number and spin quantum number (See spin). These numbers, invariably integral or half-integral, can be used to calculate the energy of the electron.
