primary colour |
| |
| One of a set of colours, suitable combinations of which can produce all other colours. Artists and printers use pigments that subtract a colour from white light; these subtractive primaries are cyan, magenta and yellow. Scientists (and TV sets) work with additive primaries: red, green and blue (hence ‘RGB’ monitors). Yellow is best thought of as white light with blue removed (i.e. yellow is minus-blue). Similarly, magenta is minus-green and cyan is minus-red.See secondary colour. |
