|
| One of a class of subatomic particle that consists of a quark and an antiquark. An example is the pion. The name was intended to suggest a mass between that of the electron and the proton. The muon was originally called the ‘mu-meson’, though it is now known to be a lepton, not a meson at all. The mesons and the baryons together form the hadrons; mesons have integral spin, whereas baryons have half-integral spin. |
