magnetic potential |
| |
| One of two quantities used in calculating magnetic flux density B. The magnetic scalar potential φ{TAG(tag=>sub)}m{TAG} (unit A) is completely analogous to the electrostatic potential: B/μ = H= grad φ{TAG(tag=>sub)}m{TAG}. The magnetic vector potential A (unit T m) is defined by B = curl A. Like all potentials it has an arbitrary gauge, and the conventional choice for A is to make div A = 0 everywhere. |
