magnetic flux

Symbol Φ; unit Wb, weber. A measure of the total magnetic flux density B passing through a surface S. The magnetic flux is given by

Φ = ∫B· dS,

or, for a uniform field, the component of B perpendicular to the surface multiplied by the area of the surface. Magnetic flux is particularly relevant in electromagnetic induction, and appears in Faraday\'s law (of induction).
