labile |
| |
| Describing a ligand in a complex that is easily replaced by another ligand. Complexes of s- and f-block metals are usually labile. Lability can be explained by looking at the electronic structure of the central ion; d{TAG(tag=>sup)}3{TAG} and low-spin d{TAG(tag=>sup)}6{TAG} octahedral complexes are generally nonlabile, as the lower-energy orbitals are respectively half-filled or filled. |
