A specialized multicellular structure that produces a substance needed for the normal functioning of an animal.See endocrine gland; exocrine gland.

A spheroidal structure on or below the surface of a plant organ, or borne on a hair, that produces a variety of substances. The hairs on stinging nettles and on many insectivorous plants are examples of glands, as are the nectaries which produce sugary solutions to attract animal pollinators.
