deuterium

Symbol {TAG(tag=>sup)}2{TAG}H or D. The isotope of hydrogen with nucleon number 2. Its nucleus is composed of one proton and one neutron. There is very little difference in its chemical behaviour compared with the normal isotope, called protium, which has no neutrons. The major difference is its mass and this can give rise to a kinetic isotope effect.See heavy water.
