| The process of heating a solid surface to release molecules of gas that are adsorbed on the surface. In order to achieve an ultra-high vacuum of less than about 10{TAG(tag=>sup)}-5{TAG} Pa, it is necessary to heat a metal vacuum chamber to temperatures of about 150 °C for a number of hours to degas adsorbed gases from the inner surfaces of the chamber. |
