|
| The subjective appearance of the wavelength or wavelengths present in a beam of light perceived by the eye. Rather than a continuous sensor of wavelength, the eye perceives colour using three distinct sensors, each of which responds over a range of wavelengths concentrated around red, green or blue-violet. It is these three intensities of response that determine the colour perceived. Two different systems can be used to parametrize colour: RGB adds together red, green and blue; HSL uses hue, saturation and luminous intensity. Hue is the angle around a colour wheel indicating which primary colour predominates; saturation describes the purity of the colour (for example, how much red and blue is mixed with a green). |
