|
| A group of many stars held together by gravitational attraction. The smaller open clusters contain from about a dozen to a few thousand stars and are found in the galactic plane. Globular clusters contain from tens of thousands to a million or more stars, with the highest density of stars closest to the centre; they are found in a halo surrounding our Galaxy, and in similar haloes round other galaxies. |
