Cassinian curve (oval)

The locus of a point the product of whose distances from two fixed points is constant, a{TAG(tag=>sup)}2{TAG}.A lemniscate is the special case where the separation of the fixed points is 2a; in polar coordinates its equation is r {TAG(tag=>sup)}2{TAG} = 2a{TAG(tag=>sup)}2{TAG} cos 2θ. Named after Giovanni Domenico Cassini (1625-1712).
